Securing Vacant properties
In some areas, it is highly important to secure vacant properties while under renovation or while waiting for a new tenant to lease the unit or move in.
There are many stories about vacant homes that are being targeted for thefts due to being vacant. Recently, we heard of a home in Detroit that was broken into and had a furnace stolen. Not only was the stolen property needing replacement but there was a broken window frame that required a full window replacement.
Vacant Property Solutions
There can be some quick things to do so the property appears to be occupied that can fit all budgets:
- Having a car parked in the driveway and moved periodically.
- Visiting the property during snow fall to ensure sidewalk snow removal and to make footprints in the snow that isn’t shoveled.
- Leaving certain lights on in the property but not in rooms that might be looked into and reveal the property is vacant.
- Video camera systems, which do include having internet on property.
